Why check an e-invoice before paying?

A ZUGFeRD invoice has two parts: the PDF you read, and the embedded invoice data your accounting or banking software takes over. If one part is altered – the IBAN, for example – you see the right bank details, but your software pays a different account. Gegenstempel puts both parts side by side and shows in seconds whether bank details, amount, invoice number, VAT and due date match.

  • Spot a changed IBAN: every bank account gets its own sign. If a supplier’s IBAN changes, you see it at once.
  • Invisible text: we detect hidden text in the PDF, a typical trick in manipulated invoices.
  • Clear next steps: if something doesn’t match, you see what to do – including a ready text for asking the supplier.
  • Check report: save the result as a PDF for your files or your tax adviser.

Frequently asked questions

Which part counts if the PDF and the data differ?

According to the German Federal Ministry of Finance, the invoice data (XML) is the leading part of a ZUGFeRD invoice (BMF letter of 15 Oct 2025). Always clarify a difference with the supplier before paying.

Does Gegenstempel also validate the technical rules?

This check compares the two parts of the invoice. If you write e-invoices yourself, the invoice creator checks every invoice against the official KoSIT rules (EN 16931 and XRechnung).

Are my invoices stored?

No. The check runs in your browser and the file never leaves your computer. Saved IBANs are stored only by your browser.
